The Alumni Scholarship Fund
A Transformative Gift
It is my pleasure to announce the creation of The Alumni Scholarship Fund dedicated to students of George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government. The Alumni Scholarship Fund provides direct support to students to meet their varied and ever changing needs. Scholarships are awarded to graduate and undergraduate students in recognition of their leadership, academic achievement, and contributions to the field of public service.
I am also very pleased to announce that for every dollar raised, the Schar School will receive a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $500,000, creating a $1 million dollar scholarship to provide current students with critical funds to earn credit hours and to entice prospective students to attend our School. This is a significant opportunity to have your investment in the Schar School doubled!

“The Alumni Scholarship allows me to focus solely on academics. It’s hard to study when you are constantly thinking about paying for your education.”
~ Anna Pastukh ’20 ODKM, Alumni Scholarship Recipient
The scholarship is a one-time award offered in the amount of $1,500 to both graduate and undergraduate students. We have already awarded over 30 scholarships for the Fall 2017 Academic year.
“This just made my day! Thank you so much for this recognition! This helps me so much with my graduate school decision.”
~ Paul Helfgott ’17 GVIP ’20 MPP, Alumni Scholarship Recipient
The Alumni Scholarship Fund facilitates student growth and promotes academic success. Support from this Fund enriches student learning opportunities, leadership development, and ensures the Schar School experience remains every bit as transformational as you remember it to be. Your gift to the Alumni Scholarship Fund helps students like Paul and Anna make a powerful impact on our world.
In addition, giving to the Alumni Scholarship Fund is a clear message to current students and faculty that they can count on the support of the alumni community. For our students, it means the chance to embark on a career advancing public good by helping to solve problems across both the private and public sectors and achieve a lifelong goal. It also enables the Schar School to continue to recruit and retain students in an increasingly competitive market. Many of our initiatives, accomplishments, and scholarships would not be possible without generous contributions from alumni and friends. Continued financial commitment is crucial.
