Graduate School Success Seminar
Registration is now open for the Fall 2020 Graduate School Success Seminar. This online, optional, non-credit program will assist you in preparing for your graduate experience with the Schar School and beyond.
For new students, this planning seminar is an opportunity to connect to academic and career resources within Schar while identifying personal strengths. Participants will develop a plan for success that aligns with their time at Mason. All are welcome, but full-time students and students who have recently completed undergraduate study are strongly encouraged to register.
The GSS Seminar will take place through Zoom on four consecutive Thursdays starting August 27th:
Session I: August 27 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
Students will connect with their fellow Schar School classmates, review objectives, discuss expectations for participation in the seminar, and take the CliftonStrengths Assessment.
Session II: September 3 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
Students will process the results of the CliftonStrengths Assessment in relation to group dynamics and leadership. Additionally, students will begin to develop an executable plan for their Schar School experience utilizing what they have learned.
Session III: September 10 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
In week three, students will focus on applying their Strengths to various life skills important to graduate school success. Topics covered will include short-term goal setting, money management, work-life-school balance and developing resiliency.
Session IV: September 17 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM
The seminar concludes with an introduction to skills necessary for future academic and professional success. Students will apply their strengths to networking and communication skills key to achieving their goals.
Enrollment in the seminar is limited to 30 students. By registering, participants agree to attend all four sessions.
