Biography

Hyeon Yeo pioneered the development of the AI Thinking model and Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) AI Management Program for the first time. Through these initiatives, he has mentored more than 300 industry leaders and policymakers, fostering innovation and transformative leadership.

Yeo’s experience includes academia, government, journalism, and international organizations. He was presidential staff and ministerial advisors in government: presidential house, justice, industry and resources, and education, editorial writer, CEO, and consultant of business and international organizations, and academia.

Recognized as a visionary thought leader, Yeo is credited for his groundbreaking strategies, innovations, and bestselling book. Among his notable achievements is his audacious endeavor to establish the New York campus. Currently, he serves as the executive chair of the G-School Global Campus Committee/New York Campus Committee, Distinguished Professor of KAIST-NYU Innovation Institute and School of Tech Management and Innovation (KAIST). He also leads as chair professor of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Business Transformation Program for executives and public leaders at KAIST.

Yeo’s academic career includes roles as professor and campus COO (vice president level) at University of Aberdeen (UK), distinguished faculty member at the George Mason University (United States), Distinguished Visiting Professor at FPT(Vietnam), visiting professor and dean’s advisor to Business School at Colorado State University (United States), visiting scholar at University of Pennsylvania, and Columbia University (United States). In Korea, he served as professor and dean of Graduate School of Business and faculty at Yonsei University (Korea).   

Beyond academia, Yeo contributes to global innovation and policymaking. He serves for the 4th Industrial Revolution Committee (chair) of Korea-American Chamber of Commerce (United States); Korea Artificial Intelligence Association (vice president); and Seoul Institute of Technology (Seoul Mayor’s Committee, Korea). As global activities, he was representative and senior advisor for World Economic Forum(Switzerland) and the Global Reporting Initiative(GRI, Netherlands), an esteemed institute based in Amsterdam. 

He also provided counsel to the minister of industry and resources, Minister of Justice (Korea) and the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Bid Advisory Committee (Korea). His advisory roles extend to global organizations such as LG Electronics (United States), EAC Valuations (United States), Vietnam Investment Review, and IPG Legal in matters related to government relations, education law, foreign trade, and investment.  

Yeo has a BA, MA, and PhD from Yonsei University and an MBA from Penn State University.

Executive Summary

Dr. Yeo currently serves as Executive Chair of the KAIST G-School and  KAIST Global Campus Committee(as KAIST Vice President and Distinguished Scholar of the NYU-KAIST Innovation Institute/Campus). 

He brings a diverse background across academia, government, journalism, and international organizations. He has had the privilege of serving in various government roles, including as a Presidential staff member and advisor to several ministries such as Justice, Industry, and Education. His experience also includes leadership in media as an editorial writer and CEO, as well as longstanding contributions to academic institutions.

Dr. Yeo was honored to help initiate the development of the AI Thinking Model and the KAIST AI Management Program, among the first of their kind. Through these efforts, he has had the opportunity to work with over 300 industry leaders and policymakers, supporting their innovation and leadership journeys in AI Business Transformation. Widely recognized for his contributions to strategic thinking and innovation, Dr. Yeo is the author of bestselling books, including the recent book AI management : Boy soldiers and Einstein.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Yeo has been privileged to hold various positions internationally, including Professor of the University of Aberdeen (UK), Distinguished Faculty at George Mason University (USA), Visiting Professor and Advisor at Colorado State University (USA), Distinguished Visiting Professor at FPT (Vietnam), and Visiting Scholar at both the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University (USA). In Korea, he previously served as Professor and Dean of the Graduate School of Business, and as a faculty member at Yonsei University.

Beyond academia, Dr. Yeo has had opportunities to contribute to innovation and policy development. Internationally, he has had the privilege of serving as a representative and senior advisor to the World Economic Forum (Switzerland) and the Global Reporting Initiative (Netherlands). His past public service includes advisory roles the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Bid Committee. He has also been fortunate to consult for organizations such as LG Electronics, Daesung Group, and other corporations, and IPG Legal on matters related to government relations, education law, and global investment.
