Biography

Dr. Samuel Canter is a planner and analyst with experience in national security, international affairs, emergency management, and military operations. He currently serves as a Strategic Planner and Integrator for the Department of the Army and as an Intelligence Officer in the Army Reserve. Prior to his current role, Sam worked as a consultant, supporting Intelligence Community and Joint Staff clients on policy and strategy development. He has also served as a civilian Emergency Management Specialist in the Executive Office of the President, where he coordinated projects and operations for White House stakeholders. Sam began his career as an Infantry and Military Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army, serving in various leadership and staff roles, including a NATO assignment in Afghanistan.

Dr. Canter's academic research focuses primarily on national security organization, bureaucracy, and culture.  Since 2022, he has also contributed as a part-time host for the New Books in National Security podcast. Sam is a graduate of Queens College (BA/MA, History) and Norwich University (MA, Military History), and holds a PhD in Politics and International Relations from the University of Leicester.
