Careers in Policy, Government and International Affairs

One of the most frequent questions we get is, “What kind of job can I get with a degree from your department?” The answer is: many different kinds! We’ve had alumni go on to work in the federal, state and local governments, international organizations, nonprofits, the private sector and various advocacy groups. Some of our students go on to be special agents, others go on to be financial consultants, directors, analysts and lawyers. All of our students with prestigious positions have something in common besides our major, however: they all did their homework, researched the field they were interested in and talked to both Mason’s career services and our own concentration advisors.

Mason has several additional resources for those seeking jobs. These include:

  • Handshake

    • Handshake learns students’ interests and preferences, based on their usage, and presents customized jobs, internships and events that are most relevant to them. Current degree seeking students will have immediate access using their Mason NetID and password.
  • Passport Career

    • Passport Career is Mason’s database for students interested in looking for international jobs; the service is free for Mason students. To access Passport Career, students should go here and enter the registration key — gmuniver — in the top right corner.
