Professional Development Planning
Registration is now open for the Spring 2025 Graduate Student Services Seminars: Professional Development Planning (PDP). This optional, non-credit program will assist you in building a foundation for your future career success.
This seminar is an opportunity to connect to academic and career resources within the Schar School while identifying personal strengths. All are welcome, but those in the job/internship search process and new professionals are strongly encouraged to register.
The PDP Seminar will take place over four consecutive weeks:
Session I: Wednesday, January 29 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Students will meet their fellow Schar School classmates, review objectives, begin the conversation regarding professional documents (resume, cover letter, etc.) and take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment.
Session II: Wednesday, February 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. Students will analyze their MBTI results and how they apply to a professional environment. Additionally, students will begin learning, networking, and communication skills necessary for their job search and beyond.
Session III: Wednesday, February 12 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. In week three, students will continue to develop their professional documents, learning how to change and adapt them for specific positions. This is in preparation for the Graduate Career Fair being held the following day. Career fair "pro-tips" will also be discussed.
Session IV: Wednesday, February 19 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. The PDP seminar concludes with an introduction to best practices for the professional workspace. Students will actively engage with Schar School alumni and faculty through a career panel and networking event.
Enrollment in the seminar is limited to 30 students. By registering, participants agree to attend all four sessions.
