Schar School Graduation of the Class of 2021

George Mason University and the Schar School are excited to celebrate the achievements of our graduates. We hope you will join us at the following events:

Virtual Commencement

We invite the class of 2021, and their family and friends, to join us at 2 p.m. EDT Friday, May 14th to celebrate a Virtual Commencement Ceremony. Commencement will be live-streamed and the link will be posted on the graduation website at gmu.edu/graduation.

In-Person Celebrations

We welcome the Spring 2021 graduating class and all 2020 graduates to the Fairfax Campus to celebrate in-person graduation recognition events during the week of May 10

Graduates may choose one of two in-person options: 

  • Patriot Procession or 
  • Mini Ceremonies

Graduates and a limited number of their family and friends are invited to attend. Registration is required by April 16th. Learn more at: gmu.edu/graduation. 

Doctoral Celebration

Doctoral candidates and all 2020 Doctoral graduates are invited to participate in a live event at which their names and degrees will be announced on the morning of Friday, May 14. Registration is required. Learn more at gmu.edu/graduation.

Celebration Page

On Friday, May 14, visit the Schar School's Celebration Page to hear congratulatory messages from Dean Rozell, classmates, and the President of the Schar School Alumni Chapter. You will also find a link to your personalized slide.

Graduation Checklist

Register for the Patriot Procession or Mini Ceremony by April 16:

Order Your Cap & Gown by April 30:

To participate in the Mini Ceremony or Doctoral Ceremony, you are required to wear a cap and gown. If you are interested in purchasing or renting regalia, you can order your cap and gown online for delivery. Contact the bookstore if you have questions about regalia.

Submit to Marching Orders for Celebration Page:

2021 Graduates should have received an email with instructions on how to register, create a password, and submit the information needed to create your personalized graduation slide.  

  • April 19: Deadline to submit a pronunciation guide on your name.
  • April 26: Deadline to upload a picture and personal message to have a slide appear on your unit’s website.

Virtual Graduation Cap:

If you would like to create a virtual graduation cap with a personal message—for use on Marching Order slides—we have created a Canva.com template to make it easy.
