Traveling Between Mason’s Arlington and Fairfax Campuses Just Became a Whole Lot Easier

A new free shuttle is connecting the Arlington and Fairfax campuses of George Mason University in a way that has not been done before, providing a cost-effective and convenient alternative. The 32-seat bus runs Monday to Thursday five times a day for students, faculty, and staff. The schedule is here.

The Arlington Campus, in partnership with Mason Parking and Transportation, is increasing convenience and making it easier for people traveling between the two campuses. The ride lasts for half-an-hour in light traffic and 45 minutes during rush hour.

A Mason ID is required to ride the shuttle.

Already, students are finding the bus a welcome addition to transportation options.

“It will be nice to cut down on Metro costs,” said Alice Calder, a PhD in Economics student and a program manager at the Mercatus Center. “Luckily, I can fit my work schedule around the shuttle schedule and get back and forth much more easily.”

Not only does the shuttle decrease the financial burden of commuting on the Metro, but it cuts down on the time it takes to hop on the shuttle to the Metro at Vienna and ride the Orange Line to the Virginia Square station in Arlington. During slow times, the commute on the Metro can take over an hour.

“I heard about the shuttle from the Schar School Twitter account,” said Kelsey Wallace, a Master’s in International Security student from Scottsdale, Ariz. “The shuttle is an important tool for students, and I am very glad Mason decided to provide us with this option.”
